As part of its efforts to control the internet, the Chinese government employs thousands of people to post comments on the internet that are favorable to the Communist Party and/or reflect Beijing’s position on various issues. These people are known as ’50-centers’, english for the .50 yuan it is rumored they receive for each post/tweet.

中國政府努力控制互聯網，並起用了數千人在網上發表一些有利共產黨的言論及反映北京立場的各種問題。他們每發表一篇文章或消息就會得到五毛的報酬，所以他們的英文稱為 50 yuan (五毛黨)。
